Bird Scene Tureen Lid

This is a rare tureen lid made by Meissen around 1750. It is superbly hand painted with four really nice bird scenes including a single bird sitting on a tree branch - my favorite being the parrot! There are a few tiny bugs in between as well as two single flowers and three bugs along the edge in panels between some nice relief design along the rim. The best part however is the figural finial of a putto holding a reticulated basket filled with flowers tumbling out and down the side of the lid. Just superb and these early pieces are hard to find. Sadly I do not have the bottom part of the tureen and the putto has been broken off with the basket at some point and crudley reglued. Oddly enough the basket has survived whole even though it broke of the lid. A bit of luck was invovled there! Still a stunning piece to display by itself or if you ahve a really damaged lid for a tureen or even just the bottom of the tureen her is your chance to make it more complete again! The lid is about 7 inches tall, 8.75 inches deep and 11 inches long so rather large and also quite heavy. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $499
