1760 Tureen

This is a rare lidded tureen made by Meissen around 1760. It is superbly handpainted with four giant flower arrangements as well as lots of smaller flowers and a nice gold trim. It has two handles (one on each side) that are nicely modeled as is the finial on the lid. The flowers are just superb being the early Deutsche Blumen type that are more realistic than the earlier woodcut flowers. The colors are amazing and much nicer than even the ones painted 10 years later. This is one superb piece. It is in great condition as well with some black firing marks mainly to the bottom inside but also behind the handles and a few on the top rim. The bottom part has no chips, etc. The lid is in great shape as well with three unimportant restored chips to the rim which could be blended in a bit better in terms of color but the gilding is perfect. This piece is really in amazing condition for any tureen but especially considering its age of 250 years! The piece is very lightly marked with the blue crossed swords with the dot on the unglazed flat bottom. It is mostly gone and only a shadow remains. I do have the under platter that belongs with it on which one can see the mark perfectly. The terrine is about 10 inches tall, 9.5 inches wide and 14 inches long so rather large and also quite heavy.
