88 Piece Machin Set

This is a huge set of porcelain dishes made by Machin around 1820. Shown in the new Machin book by Bill Thom & Philip Miller. The set is marked only with a pattern number underneath - 695. What is amazing about it is some of the pieces that come with this set and the condition they are in. At one time this must have been an even bigger set as there were 14 bullion cups so it was probably a set of 18 at one time. Now there are 89 pieces left. The set is decorated with a nice dark blue and gold design that is very elegant. The set is in great condition with almost zero wear but a lot of pieces have some form of very fine crazing which is normal for this kind of porcelain from this period. Nothing that takes away from the pieces! The set comes with 1 teapot (small chip to inside lip), 1 sugar (some staining to inside lip), 1 creamer, 11 egg cups (the largest set of old eggcups I have ever seen - one now which went to Bill Thom in exchange for one of his books), 1 muffin dish with lid, 10 plates (4 with light staining), 11 smaller saucers for the tea and coffee cups (one with a tiny chip and a hairline), 9 smaller cups (I think they are for tea - about half have some sort of staining to the inside but nothing too bad), 9 medium cups (for coffee I assume - one with a hairline and most with some staining), 3 large slop bowls (one with a hairline), 2 smaller slop bowls (both with staining), 2 large plates, 14 large saucers for soup cups, and 14 soup cups (two with hairline, one with a chip to top of handle, about half with staining). An amazing set - almost no wear to the gilding on any of the pieces which amazed me. This must have been a huge set at one time for an important person. As to the size of the pieces - the teapot is 6.25 inches tall, 5.25 inches wide and 10 inches deep. The sugar is 5.25 inches tall, 7.25 inches wide and 4.5 inches deep. The creamer is 3.75 inches tall, 3 inches wide and 5.75 inches deep. The plates are 7.375 inches in diameter. The small saucers are 5.75 inches in diameter. The eggcups are 2 inches tall and 1.75 inches in diameter. The small slop bowls are 2.875 inches tall and 5 inches in diameter. The large slop bowls are 3.125 inches tall and 6.25 inches in diameter. The small cups are 2.625 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter. The medium cups are 2.25 inches tall and 3.5 inches in diameter. The soup cups are 2.625 inches tall and 4.5 inches in diameter. The muffin dish is 3.5 inches tall and 7.25 inches in diameter. The large saucers are 6.5 inches in diameter and last but not least the large plates are 8.375 inches in diameter.
