Scenic Teapot #2

This is a really nice teapot made by Ludwigsburg in about 1765. It is hand painted with a polychrome Watteau style scene to either side. One is of a lady and the other of a gentleman both surrounded by a nice landscape scene. What makes these scenes a bit more special is that they were painted by the famous Andreas Öttner one of their best painters. A couple of small single flowers fill in the rest of the space. Nicely shaped handle and spout both with puce trim to them complete the main body. The lid which I am fairly sure is not original to this piece is painted with two more small scenes as well as two flowers and a brown edge trim. Nice pear fruit finial with its leaf. The lid is from the right time period, the right design but does not fit the way I would expect it to. The inner foot ring is too small. It does however do a great job of completing the set. The pot is marked with the under glaze blue CC under the crown mark as shown. It is 4.25 inches tall including the finial, 7.25 inches from spout to handle and about 4.25 inches in diameter. The piece is in great condition with just the matched lid isse and the edge of the spout feels a little rough but it looks to have been made this way. A small chip to the leaf of the finial as shown. A superb example from a great maker! Please email me for more information or photos.
