Large Bird Scene Plate

This is a large plate made by Ludwigsburg around 1770. It is handpainted with a top quality bird scene in the center as well as 8 really nice bugs (four on the rim and four around the scene) and a nice gold trim. The rim has a nice basket weave design to it quite typical of Ludwigsburg but nicer than most since the glaze doesn't obscure it as much. The plate is marked with the CC mark under the crown in underglaze blue as well as the usual impressed letters / numbers by the footring. The piece is larger than the usual plates one finds being 1.5 inches tall and 11.5 inches in diameter. It is in perfect condition except for that it is of an uneven height from the firing. The rim height is from 1.25 inches to 1.5 inches. It happens on old porcelain and doesn't take away from it at all! There is an area where the purple and green bird's tail is that has been ground down but is glazed and a small dip in the rim is also originally glazed over. All the things that give the old stuff their charm :) Likely after the first firing some black spots where ground out which is a fairly normal thing they did. Please email me for more information or photos.

Price is $999
