Small Lowestoft Pinecone Basket

This is a superb chestnut basket made by Lowestoft in the 18th century. A smaller version that the other one I have up for sale. Looks very much like the Worcester model except for an extra round of decoration to the inside lattice lower part. The piece is decorated with the pinecone pattern in under glaze blue and has reticulated sides in a lattice pattern with applied flowers on the intersections. A rope twist handle to either side with the terminals having moulded flowers and leaves to them. Nice blue designs to the inside rim and lower part as shown. A really nice example and in pretty nice condition though not perfect. There are three splits to the top edge where the paste shrank too much during the firing process. This is not later damage but from when it was made. There is also a flower petal chipped off on one terminal of each of the handles. Impossible to spot when on display but I like to be very thorough. One of the applied flowers is missing its blue center. Not damage but the painter must have missed it. The inside decoration along the lattice is nice and crisp! A very nice example for this maker. The basket is unmarked which is the norm for this maker and time period. The piece is about 3.25 inches tall including the handles, 6.875 inches wide and 6.125 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
