Lowestoft Pinecone Basket

This is a superb chestnut basket made by Lowestoft in the 18th century. Blatantly copied from the Worcester model :) The piece is decorated with the pinecone pattern in under glaze blue and has reticulated sides in a lattice pattern with applied flowers on the intersections. A rope twist handle to either side with the terminals having moulded flowers and leaves to them Blue design to the inside of the sides as well. A really nice example, the larger version and in great condition! One flower is mostly missing at one of the handle terminals and there is a chip to three other flower petals though they are very minor. One of the applied flowers along the outside did not get its center painted blue and some of the inside edge decoration has run a little bit but that is not real damage since it happened when it was made. Some glaze flaws to the bottom inside from when it was made. The basket is unmarked which is the norm for this maker and time period. The piece is about 4 inches tall, 9.75 inches wide and 8.5 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $999
