Liverpool Clobbered Small Waste Bowl

This is a really nice small waste bowl made by one of the Liverpool factories in about 1780. More than likely done by John Pennington. It is decorated with an under glaze blue pattern called the Chinese Lady and Servant design. One side has the Chinese lady with a large willow type tree in the background while the other side has a scene of a servant with a fence in the background in a landscape. Blue lines to the inside edge with a red trim over that typical for the Liverpool area makers. The under glaze blue design one can find from time to time but what is unusual is that it has the over glaze red and gold design to it which is sometimes referred to as clobbered. Many times it is overkill and does not look all that great but here it really does add to the design and makes it a really nice slop bowl. Not a pattern I have seen this done often to before. The piece is in superb condition with some of the usual manufacturing flaws and a touch of wear plus some nibbles to the foot ring that look to be original to when it was made but no real damage and it displays perfectly. It is not marked which is the norm! The piece is 2.25 inches tall and 4.625 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
