Toucan Figurine

This is a large figurine of a toucan bird made by KPM in the early 20th century - circa 1925. The bird is pruning itself while sitting on a pile of berries though they look more like eggs :) The piece is hand painted in the Art Nouveau or Jugendstil style of the period in underglaze colors that are quite different from the more usual above glaze colors. Quite elegant and decorative! The piece was designed by Julius Feldtmann and is a very impressive figure in terms of modelling and size. The figure is in perfect condition but there are some color misses here and there as shown - not an uncommon issue on underglaze colored pieces and it was still deemed a first choice piece so nthing that takes away from the piece at all. The biggest is a spot of blue missing along the back of his head and some smaller spots of brown along the beak. The figure is about 10 inches tall, about 4 inches deep and about 7 inches long. The figure is marked underneath with the underglaze blue scepter, the blue orb (used only on underglaze decorated pieces), some black numbers and letter as well as the usual impressed numbers and marks as shown. First choice pieces of this size are amazing as things often went wrong during the firing process. The back of the base next to his tale has the artist name impressed in it.
