Mother Fox with Young Figurine

This is a large figurine made by KPM in the early 20th century - circa 1920. It is of a female fox feeding her young a dead bird. She has the bird in her mouth with one little fox pulling at it and the other coming in closer. The piece is hand painted in the Art Nouveau or Jugendstil style of the period in underglaze colors that are quite different from the more usual above glaze colors. Quite elegant and decorative! The piece was designed by Erich Schmidt - Kestner and is a very impressive figure in terms of modelling and size. The figure is in perfect condition. The figure is about 7 inches tall, about 5 inches deep and about 15 inches long. It is marked underneath with the underglaze blue scepter, the blue orb (used only on underlgaze decorated pieces), some red numbers and letter as well as the usual impressed numbers and marks as shown. First choice pieces of this size are amazing as things often went wrong during the firing process. The side of the base behind the mother fox has the artist name impressed in it.
