Weichmalerei Thetis Figurine

This is a really nice little figurine made by KPM in the early 20th century during the Art Nouveau period in which they used these superb softer colors called Weichmalerei which I really like. The little figure is of Thetis - a figure from Greek mythology with varying mythological roles. She mainly appears as a sea nymph, a goddess of water or one of the 50 Nereids, daughters of the ancient sea god Nereus. Like many other sea gods she possessed the gift of prophesy and power to change her shape at will. The figure is of a mostly nude lady with some leaves covering her mid section. She is holding an oar and there is a large jug by her side with water spilling out. More leaves from a reed plant in the back and she is standing on a nice base. She is superbly modeled and hand painted perfectly. A really nice looking figurine! The piece is marked underneath with the under glaze blue scepter, the red orb and the usual other marks one would find one pieces from this period as shown. The figurine is in perfect condition which is always nice to find! She is 5 inches tall, 1.75 inches wide and 1.5 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $599
