Sugar Basket

This is a basket vase aka sugar basket aka Schinkelkorb made by KPM in the 20th century. It was designed originally designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel around 1820 and comes in the outer white reticulated part and an inner colored liner / insert which in this case is marron in color. The outer piece is amazingly reticulated which supposedly takes 3000 separate little cuts into the porcelain! The reticulated area is unglazed which is a bit unusual and really nice but the top rim and the bottom part is glazed. The foot has a nice ring of raised "pearls" on it which gives it a very elegant look. The liner has a nice deep color that shows through the reticulated part when inserted and a gold top edge. The piece is in perfect condition with one minor scratch to the liner color. The outer piece is marked underneath with the underglaze blue scepter mark as well as the usual impressed marks of this period and the liner is marked with the red orb as well, black painter's marks and the usual impressed marks as well. The piece including the liner is 7 inches tall and 6.125 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $599
