School Girl Figurine

This is a superb figurine of a young school girl knitting made by KPM in the early 20th century. The figure is of a school girl looking shy with a book in her hand. Nicely dressed in a skirt with some nice gold and turquoise "jewel" decroation around the edge of the base. Superbly modeled by Martin Fritzsche in 1908 and hand painted in the typical Art Nouveau / Jugendstil style of the period. Not as rare as some of the other figures in this style but one of the nicest in my opinion. The colors are amazing and the piece seems to be the answer by them to the Meissen Hentschel children which are very sought after but also much more common. The figurine is in great condition with a small flat chip at the edge of the molded decoration along the bottom of her skirt and a spot to the underside of her skirt where the color did not take - not sure why - might have been where they attached a support during the firing process. Neither shows at all when on display and she looks perfect! The figurine is 9.375 inches tall, 4.5 inches wide and 4 inches deep. It is marked underneath with the under glaze blue scepter, the red orb as well as the usual impressed numbers and marks and some painter's marks as shown. Impressed artist mark to the top back side of the base. First choice piece. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
