Weichmalerei Desk Set

This is an amazing desk set made by KPM in the early 20th century during the Art Nouveau or Jugenstil period. The set consists of the inkwell with its lid, the inkwell tray, the blotter, a paper weight and the pen tray. All pieces except for the lid are hand painted with amazing floral designs that are very detailed in the softer tones of the Weichmalerei style. They look real enough to want to smell them. Quite hard to find in general and I have never seen a desk set with them so I was more than excited to buy it! The flowers are just amazing and there are even small raised details to the flowers in white. The gold trim as well as a bit of yellow ground color finish the pieces off perfectly. The inkwell itself has little busts as handles which are quite fun to look at. Different flowers on different pieces so it doesn't get boring :) A bit hard to descibe all the detail but there are lots of pictures to look at as always. The ink well with its lid in place is 3 inches tall, 3.25 inches wide and 2.25 inches deep. The inkwell stand is 2.5 inches tall, 8.5 inches wide and 6.5 inches deep. The paperweight is 2 inches tall, 4.875 inches wide and 3.125 inches deep and the pen tray is 0.75 inches tall, 8.375 inches wide and 3.875 inches deep. The blotter is 2.75 inches tall and 4.375 inches long by 2.5 inches deep. The pieces are in great condition with a bit of wear to the gilding of the pen tray, two small chips to the gilding of the foot of the inkwell which would be an easy fix if need be and a larger chip to the lid also an easy fix if need be. The blotter porcelain plate has has some gypsum applied to the udnerside to keep it from moving but that can easily be removed if need be. That is not visible when it is all put together! The set displays perfectly as is and is a truly amazing find! The bottom of the pieces is marked underneath with the underglaze blue scepter mark as well as the red orb mark, various painter's marks and two pieces have the rectangular Made in Germany mark in red. The paper weight has the bottom covered in black felt fabric so I cannot show the marks but I am sure they are there. Also the usual impressed marks of the period.
