Pate Sur Pate Plate

This is a superb plate made by KPM in the early 20th century. It has an amazing white Pate sur Pate design on a cobalt blue ground color in the cetner of the well with a fun gold trim around it. Nice gold trim to the rim and a gold band to the edge. The warrior is really detailed and the white design stands out nicely against the deep blue background. Now for the not so good news. The plate is a bit odd. It is a second choice piece as denoted by a cut mark to the glaze under the scepter mark but what is really odd is the while the bottom is glazed the underside rim is not. Never seen that before. It displays superbly with some wear to the gilding and two tiny black spots to the white area on the edge of the well which is probably why it has been assigned as a second choice piece. An area to the very edge with some tiny nibbles to it and a flaw to the underside near the mark that does not show from the top side. Still a very rare piece and worthy of displaying! It is marked underneath with the under glaze blue scepter as well as the usual impressed marks as shown. The scene is signed by the artist but it is hard to make out. T.J. Bett maybe? The piece is 1.5 inches tall and 9.5 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
