Portrait Pipe

This is a superb porcelain pipe bowl made by KPM in the early 19th century. It is handpainted with a top quality scene of a husband and wife - him wearing his fighting attire and her wearing a nice dress. He is holding his shield up in front of her in which you can see her reflection. Just an amazingly detailed painting. The scene is surrounded with a gold trim. The pipe is marked on the bottom end across it so only two small lines are visible but it is also marked on the inside with the underglaze blue scepter of around 1820. There is also an impressed number 8 on that front stub which only Meissen and KPM did. The pipe is in great condition with a tiny bit of wear to the gold trim and a small scratch near the man's head and a small firing fault near the ladie's butt :) In that area the skirt is lighter than it should be I assume because of the impurity in the paste burned away and with it some paint. No big deal at all! The pipe was used but is fairly clean on the inside. The bowl is 4.875 inches tall and a little over 1.25 inches in diameter. It comes with the attachment between the pipe and the stem but no stem! Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $999
