Spreewaelderin Girl Figurine

This is a superb figurine made by KPM in 1909. First designed by Karl Himmelstoss ( he worked for a few makers including Rosenthal and KPM) in 1908 so she is from the original period and not a model you find often. The figure is of a young woman / girl dfressed in traditional clothes of the Spreewald region near Berlin . The region is very beautiful and many of the inhabitants are descendants of the Slavic tribes of the Sorbs / Wends and to this day preserved their languange, customs and even clothing. She is superbly modelled and painted in the Art Nouveau or Jugendstil style of the period. The girl has an umbrella that is too large for her and a 7km sign to the back - a little girl breaking into an adult world. The figurine is in perfect condition with the occasional tiny black firing spot from the making normal to these large peices. The figure is about 10.5 inches tall, 4.625 inches wide and 4.875 inches deep. The figure is marked underneath with the underglaze blue scepter (first choice), the red orb, some black numbers as well as the usual impressed numbers, etc. as shown in the pictures. The back of the base has HIMMELSTOSS 08 impressed into it. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
