Kaiserin Auguste Cup & Saucer

This is a nice cup and saucer made by KPM in the early 20th century around WWI. The cup has the relief portrait bust of Kaiserin ( Prussian Queen ) Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein the first wife of Kaiser Wilhelm II . She lived from 1858 until 1921. A hard to find set that has a snake shaped handle to the cup, gold trim to the handle as well as edges of the cup and saucer and gilding behind the portrait. A really nice looking set! The saucer is in superb condition with some minor wear to the gold trim around the well, the cup has wear to the inside gold trim and a chip to the edge of the snake right by where it meets the rim and a hairline going from there to the other side. The handle is perfectly stable since it still has two more attachment points and the chip is not obvious at all! The set displays very well. The saucer is 0.875 inches tall and has a diameter of 5.5 inches. The cup is 3.375 inches tall and has a diameter of 3 inches. The handle sticks up another 1.125 icnhes over the rim. Both pieces are is marked underneath with the under glaze blue scepter and the usual imrpessed numbers. The saucer also has an iron cross to it. Pieces that were just gilded and not painted were jsut starting to have the red orb mark around this period which explains why the saucer does not ahve one yet - it is first choice however. The cup has a faint cut aross the scepter and is thus a second choice piece. Both have the usual impressed marks common to these pieces during this period.
