Julius Menzel Scenic Plaque

This is a cake plate or plaque made by KPM in 1925. I have seen this type of platter before designed by Theodor Schmuz-Baudiss but this one here is hand painted by my favorite KPM painter Julius Menzel in the typical Art Nouveau / Jugendstil style of the period. The piece has a pink ground color with a gold leaf design to it and some nice goldt rim to the rim but my favorite part is the central scene quite typical to Menzel - a small town scene including a bell tower, a few old style buidlings and a town square with possibly a fountain to the right side. A horse drawn cart and some people on the cobble stone road. The scene in from the town Rothenburg ob der Tauber which is still a very beautiful city that I have been to once or twice. The plate is marked underneath with the blue scepter, the red orb, the usual impressed marks, black numbers and a black painter's mark as well as the number 217. Deutsches Land Rothenburg o/T v. J. Menzel and 1925. About as well marked a piece of KPM as you will ever find and just a stunning example of this period and painter. The serving dish is 0.625 inches tall and 9.75 inches in diameter. In superb condition with some very very minimal wear to the gilding. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $1499
