Art Nouveau Castle Scene Plate #3

This is a stunning plate made by KPM in the early 20th century during WWI. It is very much in the Art Nouveau / Jugendstil style of the period and is hand painted with a scene in the center of a castle on top of a hill by a river with a boat going along. The castle is called Burg Stolzenfels which is a former medieval fortress castle that was ruined and then turned into a palace. It is situated near the city of Koblenz on the Rhine. Today, it is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The rim of the plate is nicely done as well not being the boring old kind but a bit wavy and a gold ring around the scene and some gold dots along the well edge make this a very elegant plate. Julius Menzel is best known for these kinds of scenes and the plate here is signed by him in the bottom right of the scene. I have three more from this series and one other is also signed by him. The plate is in perfect condition with some minor use marks to the gilding. The piece is 0.625 inches tall and 7.75 inches in diameter and marked underneath with the under glaze blue scepter, the red orb mark, the black iron cross of the first World War, the number 50/39 in black, a gilder's marks, the usual impressed marks and also the title of the scene to the front in black.
