Kornilow Teapot

This is a really fun teapot made at the Korniloff factory around 1900. The Kornilow company began exporting their wares around 1886 and it was distributed in the US by Tiffany & Co. This design can be found on many different pieces and one can find plates quite easily, cups a little less often but the main pieces from this service are very hard to come by! The tea pot is decorated with a nice geometric design including animals like birds, squirrels, fish, etc. as well as trees. A fun design that is quite elegant. The lid has a tree and star design to the rim. Gold trim to the edges. My favorite part ohowever is that amazing and elaborate handle in the shape of a horse. Stunning! The spout is also some sort of animal probably a horse as well. The teapot displays nicely but is sadly not perfect. The spout has the top lip chipped off and the lid has two chips to the edge as shown plus there is a flaw to the inside top edge of the pot as if a bubble burst and the top layer of porcelain and glaze are gone. One sees that on older porcelain from time to time. It is because there was some sort of impurity in the paste during the firing process which leaves the spot unstable and it later bursts. None of these issues would be hard to have restored but this piece is a beauty the way it is anyway. The underside is marked as shown in the photoswith the Kornilov brothers mark as well as the red number 245 likely the pattern number and the Tiffany mark. The piece is 4.5 inches tall including the finial on the lid, 8.75 inches from handle to spout end and about 5.25 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
