Japanese Kakiemon Saucer

This is a a really nice saucer dish made in Japan in the late 17th or early 18th century. Likely from the Arita area so they are today known as Arita ware or Hizen ware though this is used more for blue and white pieces. The wares with added color are known as Imari ware with Kakiemon as a sub group. Kutani wares also come from this area but are different yet again. This saucer is hand painted with a design I am very familiar with from Meissen porcelain and I think Chelsea did it as well. It has three larger designs to it as well as a smaller design in the center. If I am correct they are supposed to represent the plum tree with blossoms, the pine tree and possibly bamboo. Sort of like the three friends pattern that is more common. It is superbly done and of amazing quality! The porcelain is so thin and white and the enamel colors are stunning. Brown trim to the nicely shaped edge and a bt of a relief design to the rim. It predates the European version of this design so defeinitely from this time period. It is the perfect piece to show off both the quality of the porcelain and the decoration. The saucer is in great condition with two flaws along the edge. I would not call them chips but more pieces that broke off due to underlying flaws to the paste from what I can tell. A minor touch of wear but as nice as it gets from this period. The dish is 0.875 inches tall and about 5.125 inches in diameter. It is unmarked which is normal. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
