Herend Reticulated Lidded Vase

This is a really neat early reticulated vase with its lid made by Herend in the mid 19th century. These early pieces by them are very hard to find - I did find one modern example with a different pattern. I have not seen this pattern before either! The vase is double walled which was probably copied from much earlier Chinese examples. The outside wall is reticulated and the inside wall solid so it can be used properly as a vase. The lid only has an outside reticulated wall with the bottom being solid. Both pieces are hand painted with a red, gold and blue design based on Imari colrs. It is of Phoenix bird or dragonwith long red feathers. Really a great looking design that goes all around. The vase is in good condition with two chips to the top rim of the main body and a couple of minor hairlines/ glaze lines along the top rim. There is one section of the reticulated part that has been factory repaired and a tail feather painted over that. Shows that they still had production issues back then! The underside must have had a flaw as well and it was painted over with liquid porcelain slip and then marked on top of that. Each cut out has the edges very dirty and it could use a careful cleaning. The edges are not glazed and thus the issue of dirt sticking to it. Either way a really interesting and rare piece! It looks stunning and is unlike any other piece by any maker in terms of design. They truly did some amazing work early on! The vase is marked underneath with the blue shield mark as well as a letter S. The piece is 9.5 inches tall and 4.5 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
