Hanley Creamware Basket

This is a great cream ware reticulated basket made by David Wilson & Sons , Hanley , Staffordshire , in the vey early 19th century. The basket is hand painted with a nice flower on the bottom inside, a some blue and gold trim to the side, some nice detail added to the outside reticulated areas and two branch handles painted in gold. A very nice piece by a hard to find maker. The basket is in great condition with one handle having some flaking to the gilding - not sure why - the piece seems to be original and the gilding matches but maybe there was some work done to it!? I am honestly unsure in this case. There are three white spots in the blue trim where the color was missed / flaked. Either way the piece displays perfectly and is a superb example! The basket is marked underneath with the impressed WILSON mark as shown as well as a G under a crown - not sure of the significance of that and the name of the flower in red - Free Colutea or Bladder Senna .The piece is 2.25 inches tall, 7.625 inches wide and 5.25 inches deep!
