Grossbreitenbach Rare Cup & Saucer

This is a veryr are cup and saucer made by Großbreitenbach in the Thuringia region of Germany in the 18th century - about 1782. The factory was founded in 1778 by Anton Friedrich Ernst von Hopfgarten (now there is a name!) and in 1782 it was sold to the Greiner family which owned just about all factories in that region. It became part of the Limbach factory and used the same mark so attribution to this one maker is very hard. Having said that I did find two saucers of this exact design attributed to Grossbreitenbach so I am prettyc ertain this set was made by them as well. It fits since I ahve not seen this odd thick brown edge trim by them nor this sort of flowers. Either way a really nice set with both pieces having a hand painted large floral arrangement to them with three single flowers to the saucer rim and a single flower to the side of the cup. Nice classicism style handle and that already mentioned brown edge trim. A nice looking set for sure. Both are marked with the clover leaf in different colors. The cup is just over 2.5 inches tall and 2.5 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1 inch tall and 5 inches in diameter. Both are in great condition with jsut a touch of wear to the brown trim. A very nice quality set by a rare maker. Please email me for more information or photos.

Price is $749
