Gotha Sepia Scene Sugar Dish

This is a lidded sugar dish made by Gotha around 1815. Gotha is probably the best of the Thuringia makers in terms of quality of the paste and painting. They existed from 1757 until 1937 in one form or another. I have not come across a sugar dish in this decor by them but have seen quite a few cups and I own a creamer as well. A nice little dish with the lid having two circular scenes to it surrounded by gold trim, the main body also has two circular scenes with the gold trim to it and the edges have a gold trim as does the angular handle / finial. This box is a superb example of Gotha's work in the classicism style! These ruin landscapes are very typical of their pieces. The lidded dish is in great condition with some gold wear mainly to the edge and a small chip to both the lid edge and bottom edge of the main body. Quite small and the piece displays very well! It is marked underneath in under glaze blue with the letter G. mark as shown. The sugar dish and lid are 2.75 inches tall including the finial and 3.5 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or photos.
