Gotha Portrait Cup

This is a cup made by Gotha around 1775. Gotha is probably the best of the Thuringia makers in terms of quality of the paste and painting. This cup is another superb example of Gotha's work. It is handpainted with a scene in the front of a lady's bust surrounded by a green wreath held up by a puce bow on top. Nice gold trim to the rim and handle. The cup is in great condition with a tiny bit of gold wear to the top rim and a scratch in the grey area behind the lady's bust. It is are marked underneath with the underglaze blue R mark as well as an impressed r. The cup is 1.875 inches tall and 2 inches in diameter. Sadly there is no saucer with it.
