Gotha Iburg Scenic Cup

This is a really nice Biedermeier cup made by Gotha in the early 19th century between 1805 and 1834. It is marked with the fairly rare script Gotha mark in black. Gotha is probably the best of the Thuringia makers in terms of quality of the paste and painting. They existed from 1757 until 1937 in one form or another. This cup is superbly hand painted with a topographical scene of the city of Bad Iburg, by Osnabrück in the Lower Saxony state of Germany, with the castle in the center of the scene surrounded by some smaller building and lots of greenery. The scene has a gold frame around it and there is lots more gilding throughout the cup as shown. Nice handle shape with a lion face in the center of the top part as shown. The piece is in great condition with a small chip that is mostly underneath the base as shown and some gold missing in an area of the inside rim of the top. Otherwise in great shape and it displays superbly! The cup is 3.625 inches tall with the handle sticking up another 0.75 inches from there and 3.25 inches in diameter.
