Gotha Black Scenic Cup & Saucer

This is a cup and saucer made by Gotha in the 18th century. It is marked with just their R so from the earliest period of between 1757 and 1782. Gotha is probably the best of the Thuringia makers in terms of quality of the paste and painting. They existed from 1757 until 1937 in one form or another. This cup and saucer are each hand painted with a scene in shades of black typical for this maker. One on the front of the cup and the center of the saucer. A bit of gold trim to the edges and handle. Typical handle shape with the "screws" to attach the handle - a nice feature on cups from this area which I really like. Off course they are jsut made to look like the ehads of scrws and are part of the porcelain. The set is in gresat condition with just some very minor wear but the set displays perfectly! Both pieces are marked underneath with the underglaze blue R. mark as shown. The cup is 2.625 inches tall and 2.5 inches in diameter. The saucer is 1.25 inches tall and 5.25 inches in diameter.
