Gmundner Keramik Figurine

This is a pottery figurine made by the Gmundner Keramik factory of Austria in the early 20th century. The Schleiss family was a patron the arts in the region and in 1909, the Franz and Emilie Schleiss Art Workshop opened its doors and began what makes the company so special to this day - the love of art. In 1913 Franz Schleiss II merged with Wiener Keramik (Vienna Ceramics), which served as a sales association for Wiener Werkstätten. The United Wiener und Gmundner Keramik and Gmundner Tonwarenfabrik Schleiß attaracted lots of super famous artists liek Powolny , Zülow , ec. This figure here was designed by Emilie Schleiss during this period around 1918 to be more exact. The figure is called Krinoline mit Haube or sometimes church goer with golden cap. It is of a lady wearing a traditional outfit including a cobalt blue gown with a colorful floral scarf over it, a fancy golden head covering and holding a long necklace with a cross on it and a book (probably a bible) in her hands. It's a stunning figure and hard to find in such good conditoin. The figurine is in superb condition with possibly some wear to the gold though I think the design was made that way on purpose. She is marked on the bottom inside with their impressed model number 1123 as well as the impressed square mark though impossible to make out any details in that and an under glaze blue 8. as shown. The piece is 11.5 inches tall, 4.75 inches wide and 5.5 inches deep. AAs nice an example as they come! Please email me for more information or photos.

Price is $599
