Doccia / Ginori Lion Finial Lidded Tankard

This is a superb scenic stein / tankard made by Doccia / Richard Ginori in the mid to late 19th century. An amazing piece that has a superb battle relief scene all around the main body all hand painted to perfection and very detailed with a puce and gold trim to the bottom edge. Top edge has a gold trim to it. This piece comes with its original lid but oddly enough it does not have the bronze hardware that most often comes with these pieces and connect the lid and main body. Not sure why but I like it this way. Easier to drink from! The figural handle is in the shape of an elephant head with the trunk forming the handle which is just plain fun! The piece is marked with the under glaze blue letter N under a crown mark as shown. The mug alone is about 5.75 and it has a bottom diameter of 3.875 inches. The lid adds about another 2.375 inches in height. It is decorated in puce and gold with a nice design and has a fantastic lion finial to the top. The tankard and lid are in great condition with a tiny bit of wear and a shallow chip to the udnerside edge which is only barely visible from the side. It displays perfectly!
