Rare Khedive Pattern Soup Cup & Saucer

This is an rare soup cup and saucer made by Richard Ginori in the 19th century. It is hand painted with a variation of the famous decoration designed by Gaetano Lodi between 1873 and 1875 for the Egyptian Khedive ( Viceroy during the Turkish occupation) which looks quite stunning and is definitely very Egyptian :) They made a few more pieces later on but they are extremely rare and very much collected due to the obviously stunning design. Both pieces are decorated with a black and yellow checkered design with gold and black thin trim lines and a gold trim to the edge. What makes the set are the two amazingly detailed handles in the form of lotus flower seed pods with the stalk bend into a nice shape. Decorated with a red, yellow, black and gold design. The inside of the cup has a trim made of rings of black yellow and gold as well. A stunning looking set and I ahve never come across a soup cup and saucer! A very rare design with some nice history to it. The set is in great condition with just a touch of wear but it displays perfectly. Both are marked underneath with a green Ginori mark used from 1868 until 1903 as well as the red Ginori Italy under a crown and a red number 0500. as shown. The cup is 2.125 inches tall and 3.5 inches in diameter plus 0.875 inches extra for each handle. The saucer is 0.75 inches tall with a diameter of 5.875 inches.
