Doccia / Ginori Relief Scene Large Box

This is a really nice large dresser or jewelry box made by Doccia / Ginori in the mid 19th century. One rarely sees these especially in this size so I was thrilled to have found it! All four sides as well as the top are decorated with mythological scenes in relief with a bit of a gold frame around them. The scenes are hand painted with lots of detail. My favorite scene has to be the front one that has neptune in his seashell chariott being pulled by two hippocampus horses - not something you find often. The scene on top of the lid is the largest and is of a hunt with people on hores and on foot chasing a wild boar with lots of dogs around as well. The box sits on four fancy feet which are typical in design and color for this maker. A floral design is above that being held up by blue bows. One of the unusual parts of this box is that it also has a superb scene in puce to the inside lid. Most of these boxes are just white on the inside. The mounts are brass or bronze that had to be cut out a bit to fit around the bows of the corners. .The box is in great condition with some wear to the gilding and I think the mounts were gilded at some point and that is mostly gone now. It displays perfectly and is ready to be used again :) The piece is marked with the blue crown over N mark copied so often by other makers from this original. The box is 5.125 inches tall, 7.5 inches wide and 5.625 inches deep. A nice size and quite heavy. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
