Scenic Tea Caddy w/ Silver Lid

This is a really nice tea caddy / jar where I believe the blank porcelain was made by Meissen in the mid 18th century but because of the flaws it was sold as white ware. The painting I think was done in the mid 19th century by Herend during their very early period. The front and the back side each have a superb scene to it. One side has a cherub holding is bow and arrows while standing on his shell chariot pulled by a bird in a nice landscape surrounding. The other side has two putti in a landscape surrounding. Each side has a floral arrangement to it that in terms of the colors used fits Herend during their first years quite well. The top shoulders have a small flower to them as well and there is a nice gold trim to the top edges and a gold line around the bottom edge. The lid was lost and replaced by a silver one with a cork inside. To make it fit snuggly the opening was sanded down a bit and that has stained over time from the silver. Otherwise the piece is in great condition with two large firing cracks to the side painted with the putti scene and a small one to one of the floral sides and another small on to a shoulder. A truly superb quality piece and the quality of the scenes is amazing! The tea jar is unmarked underneath wwhich is typical of early Meissen caddies. The piece with the lid in place is 4.625 inches tall, 2.875 inches wide and 1.75 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
