Circa 1750 Silver & Enamel Box

This is a really nice snuff / patch / pill / trinket box made in Germany in the mid 18th century. More than likely from the workshop of Pierre Fromery from Berlin, Germany. These can be as early as the 1730s and I have seen late ones from the 1770s. I would say this example here falls in the middle around 1750. Most I have seen used gold foil to apply the decoration while this one here uses rather thick silver decoration. Really very nice and interesting. The box is made of copper with the white enamel on top of that base that was then decorated with applied silver ornamentation with émail de Saxe on top of that. The silver decoration is in the form of flowers on the lid with scroll work around the edge. The front, back, and bottom of the box has more floral designs and scroll work to the edges but the sides just have a little bird sitting on a scroll design. This silver work has red and green enamel highlights that make it look amazing! Just a superb piece. The mounts are silver and marked with a rhombus impressed under the piece sticking out of the front. What is inside that rhombus I cannot make out. The box is in superb condition with some minor stress cracks to the top left back corner area and minor dmage to the corners of the base. I am sure some of the colorful enamel is missing but one cannot tell since not all of it was enamelled to begin with. It displays superbly! The snuff box is about 1.5 inches tall, 3.25 inches wide and 2.75 inches deep. A really nice looking piece! On a side note Christian Friedrich Herold worked in this workshop before he moved to the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory in 1726. He used the techniques learned from Fromery at Meissen on porcelain before becoming a lot more famous for his amazing ability to paint. on porcelain. He did keep working for Formery even while working at Meissen. Quite interesting really. Please email me for more information or photos.
