Page Turner

This is a page turner made by a German maker in the late 18th to mid 19th century (hard to tell in this case). These pieces were and are used to turn the pages on rare old books so you don't get your finger oils all over the pages and destroy them. The porcelain handle is handpainted with a superb scene of a of a lady holding a birdcage on one side and a gentleman shooting down some birds on the other side. Nice gold trim on cobalt blue background. The blade is quite fancy and of a gold color probably bronce or a gilded metal. The shaft goes all the way through the handle and at the end is a flat point that holds the porcelain in place. This is a common way of fixing the porcelain onto the metal used all through the 18th century and parts of the 19th century. The piece is in great condition with a little wear to the gold trim. The entire turner is 10 inches long of which the handle is about 3.5 inches. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
