Mercury Figurine

This is a great figurine of the god Mercury made by Fuerstenberg in the 18th century. Fpr the Romans, Mercury was the god of commerce and the messenger of the gods for the Greeks he was called Hermes . An early piece that is modeled superbly and larger than many pieces one finds. The figure is of a semi nude Mercury holding a letter in his right hand and would ahve had his staff in his left hand. He is wearing a hat with two wings on it as well as winged shoes. The piece displays nicely but has some expected damages. The left arm was broken and has a very old staple repair, the staff of mercury is missing and one finger with it, the letter is mostly missing, one wing on his hat is missing, his right foot has broken off and was repaired though it is loose again and missing both wings. An unglazed spot on the front of the top base likely where his staff would ahve touched and was ground down a bit to hide it. All in all in good condition given the age and nature of the piece. The figure is 11.375 inches tall, about 5.5 inches wide and 4.5 inches deep. The piece is marked with an under glaze script F mark in blue as well as a number 7 and the usual impressed / incised marks as shown. I think he was modeled by the famous Simone Feilner . I also own the matching Diana figurine. Please email me for more information or photos.
