Lady, Cherub & Dolphin Figurine

This is a fun figurine made by Fuerstenberg in the 18th century. It is of a lady likely meant to represent the goddess Venus with Amor / Cupid by her side standing on top of a superbly modeled dolphin .A stunning piece that is modeled very well and hand painted in the typical manner for this maker. Venus is half covering up with a purple cloth and holding a gold scepter in her left hand with cupid by her side holding an upside down torchbut that dolphin is by far my favorite part! The base has pink Greek scroll work trim all around. The figure is 8 inches tall, 4.5 inches wide and 2.625 inches deep. The piece displays superbly but has some flaws mainly from when it was made. The seam on Venus' side split open a bit and her arm has a break to the top and some damage to ehr hand though I believe this resulted during the firing process or at partially because of it. Ther eis a firing crack in the top part of her leg in this area as well. All of which was covered up by a restorer at some point but it had discolored a lot and I took most of it off. Looks much better now and I don't mind that sort of damage anyway. The only real damage is a missing wing of the cherub but since it is the inside wing it does not show when on display! A little chip in her hair. Some wear and tiny chips along the base edges. The side fin of the dolphin looks like it is missing the end but it was made this way! All in all a superb piece! The figurine is marked with an incised number 354 over the letter S. as shown. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
