18thC Miner Figurine

This is a figurine of a seated miner ( Einmannbohrer ) mady by Fürstenberg in the 18th century. First designed by Simon Feilner , the series of eleven large miners date from 1757 and the first models were completed by his uncle, Johann Georg Leimberger , during the same year. Due to difficulties with the firing, the series was not completed until the second half of 1758. They are quite famous for this series of figures and they are often left in the white as is the case here. They still produce them nowadays but the original 18th century pieces are really hard to find. The miner is sitting on a piece of rock while chisseling away at a rochface in front of him using a hammer and a chisel. The miner is well dressed with the traditonal hat on. Superbly modeled with lots of details. This model is fairly hard to find even from the modern version. The figure is in great condition with the hammer missing the hammer part and also a chip to the stem piece underneath, the chisel is chipped a touch on the underside, his hat has a few small chips to the edge and the edge of the base has some minor chips to it. It displays nicely, is rather rare and could easily be restored back to perfection! The piece is 6.75 inches tall, just under 6 inches wide and 3.875 inches deep. It is unmarked underneath except for an incised number as shown. Please email me for more information or photos.

Price is $999
