Fox & Peacock Scene Plate

This is a great plate made in Germany in the mid 19th century. I bought it as being from the Paris area but the paste does not fit that and it is definitely from the Thuringia area of Germany and most likely by Gotha which is probably the best of the Thuringia makers in terms of quality of the paste and painting. This plate is hand painted with a superb quality large scene in the center as well as some nice gold trim. The scene is of two wolves or foxes in a "hen" house filled with peacocks sitting on poles high up. One fox is holding a knife pulled out of the sheath in his belt while the other has a key in its paws and is by an open window. The quality of the scene is top notch and likely from one of the German fables though none come to mind right now. The plate is in super condition with some very minor wear to the gilding and a few small manufacturing flaws like small black spots and a big blob of extra porcelain in the back center of the plate as shown. Nothing that takes away from the piece at all. It is not marked underneath but definitely from this period and area. The plate is 8.25 inches in diameter and 1 inch tall.
