Superb Floral Fruit Cooler

This is a nice lidded fruit cooler made in France, probably the Paris region, in the later 18th century. These pieces are become rather difficult to find. It was originally used to cool fruit with ice being added to the top of the lid and to the inside with a third bowl like pieces holding the fruit. That piece is lacking here which is the case most of the time. The main body and lid are hand painted with a pink floral and green leaves garland all around, two larger and two smaller floral arrangements to the main body, gold twigs filling in the rest of the space as well as the bottom inside of the lid. A handle sticking out from the center of the lid and handles to the side of the main body. Lots of gold trim all over make this an elegant looking set. The lidded cooler is in great condition with a minor touch of gold wear and a harline from the top edge of the main body going down and turning sideways. The entire line is about 3 inches long and looks to be very tight and stable. The pot still rings true when tapped. A couple of firing flaws like brown spots but nothing else serious. It looks amazingand is a rare survivor from this period. The set measures 10.375 inches tall and 7.875 inches in diameter. The handles stick out about 0.75 inches on either side. It is unmarked but definitely French from this period. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
