Feldspar Sugar Dish

This is a nice sugar dish made of a feldspathic stoneware made around 1800 by Sowter at Mexborough in Yorkshire . I thought it was made by Castleford but a friendly colelctor that knew better informed me of my mistake. He said Sowter used numbers udnerneath while Castleford used letters so now we all know :) Always wanted to have a nice example of this type of material and this sugar dish is nicely decorated with two relief scenes (one on the front and one on the back) as wel as lots of relief detail all around with nice handles, rims and a fancy finial. Nice blue highlights here and there. This type of stoneware was first made around 1790 and because of its translucency some argue it should be included into the class of porcelain but one can argue both ways :) The sugar dish is in great condition with only five small nibbles on the inside rim where the lid sits so not seen when it is on not obvious when it is off. There is a small firing crack to the inside side but it does not go through! The sugar dish is marked only with an impressed number 22 underneath which doesn't help me very much! It is 5.5 inches tall (including the lid), 7.25 inches wide (including the handles) and 4 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
