Sea Shell Scene Spillvase #1

This is a really fun spill vase made in England around the early 19th century. I am unsure as to an exact maker as I could not find this exact shape anywhere but it is definitely English from this period. A spill vase / holder is a small traditional or wall-hanging vase for containing small pieces of wood for transferring fire to use to light a candle or pipe from a lit fire. This example here is probably from the Staffordshire region. It has a nice shape to it with a wonderful top rim and is sitting on three claw feet. The center is a bit unusual as it is hand painted with a sea shell design including seashells as well as seaweed all on an olive green ground color. Lots of gilding throughout! A really nice example and this is the smaller one with another matching larger one up for sale as well on the site. The piece is in great condition with two or three tiny scratches and manufacturing flaws in terms of tiny black firing spots as well as some inclusions to the paste to the bottom inside. A touch of gold wear to the top very outer rim edge and some very hard to spot light crazing to the top underside rim. Displays perfectly and looks amazing! The piece is not marked which is fairly normal on English wares from this period! It is 5.125 inches tall with a top diameter of 3.125 inches. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $229
