Pink Luster Bough Pot

This is a superb bough or bulb pot made by in England in the early 19th century. It is a piece of Sunderland pearlware that is decorated superbly with their famous pink luster color. It comes with its original lid which is a treat as they were lost oftentimes. I could only find one other example of this piece that recently sold at Christie's. The main body has a relief design to it in the form of columns holding up arches with a decorative leaf desig over the columns. The space under the arches is decorated with baskets filled with fruit and vegetables sitting on tables. Nice circular rim design around the top rim and the typical bun feet at the bottom. The lid has a floral and possible bunches of grapes design to it and a nicely shaped finial. The pink lustre makes the whole piece just that much more fun! Bough pots like this were often made with flat backs to stand against the wall or to be used back to back with another piece to form a circular display as a centre piece on a table. They were made for upper class homes and would have looked amazing with the flowering bulbs in the spring and twigs and dried grasses the rest of the year. The piece is unmarked but identified as Sunderland pearlware by Christie's so that's probably correct. The bulb pot is 7.5 inches tall including the finial, 8.5 inches wide and 3.25 inches deep. The body is in superb condition with just a touch of wear. The lid has a small chip to the top back and a corner has been restored in the pastand discolored since. Could be done better but does not look terrible either. It's a rare and fun piece! Please email me for more information or other pictures.
