Basalt Shakespeare Bust

This is a rare miniature basalt bust of Shakespeare made in England by an unknown maker in the 18th century. Was told by a collector that he firmly believes it is an early unmarked piece by Wedgwood and Bentley . Apparently many of their basalt wares were unmarked early on. It has very good detail and is a bit different from the usual white porcelain or brown stoneware one sees much more often. I don't know who made it but it could also be one of the smaller makers like Turner or even Neale. The bust has a lot of detail and was definitely handmade or at least touched up by hand after the molding process. It is in perfect condition with some manufacturing flaws in the form of small firing cracks. Something is rattling around on the inside. Sadly the piece is unmarked and thus hard to perfectly attribute. It is 5.75 inches tall, 3.25 inches wide and 2.5 inches deep. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $399
