Doccia / Ginori Beer Stein

This is a superb scenic lidded stein / tankard made by Doccia / Richard Ginori in the mid to late 19th century. An amazing piece that has their signature relief scenes all around the central part of the body all hand painted to perfection and very detailed with a colorful trim to the bottom including a gold "pearl" trim. Top edge has a gold line to it coming out of the entirely gilded interior. The lid has their typical floral garland and bows design to the rim with a large naked putto shepherd finial. The handle is amazing - a nude lady's body with the legs morphing into snakes and wings to the top. Better fitting a figurehead of a ship's bow :) The metal fitting are bronze or brass. Precision work on the mounts since when the lid is open the thumb rest sits right between her head and the hair bun on the back of her head. A proper container for your evening beer! The piece is marked with the under glaze blue letter N under a crown mark as shown. The entire piece is about 9.5 and it has a bottom diameter of 4.25 inches. The tankard is in great condition with the shepherd's staff missing its end and the finial putto issing most of his upper hand as shown. Displays nicely and is very ahrd to find.
