Doccia Large Relief Scene Lidded Urn

This is a superb lidded urn / vase made by Doccia in the earlier 19th century. A very heavy piece that is thickly potted and is decorated with a wrap around relief scene that is hand painted superbly. The relief is rather high compared to most of the peices I ahve owned by them. There is also a nice design in relief to the top and bottom with a wreath garland underneath the scene. Some gold highlights as well. The lid has the same design to it and a really nice fruit finial including its stem and a leaf. The piece is based on an 18th century example and includes a scene of Vulcan as well as Venus. Lots of detail to it and the quality is superb! Quite typical of this maker and a very nice example of their work. Hard to find the real Doccia / Ginori pieces! The German and French copies are much more common. The piece is in excellent condition! There is a factory repaired firing crack to the inside as shown. Does not leak or anything like that! The piece is unmarked underneath which is pretty noprmal for their earlier pieces! The lidded vase is about 10.25 inches tall with a diameter of 5.75 inches. Quite heavy for its size.
