Doccia Lady Candleholder #1

This is a superb figural candlestick made by Doccia in the 18th century. It is from a set of four depicting the four seasons two being male and two being female. This one is summer I guess. The piece is modeled as a female figure holding up a horn of plenty looking item in his left hand which has the candleholder on top of it. She has a little putto by her right side which is holding a sheath of wheat. The base is nicely shaped with some really bright colors on it typical of Doccia. The piece displays superbly but there is some decent restoration present which is normal on these pieces. The putto's left foot is restored as is his neck and the horn of plenty with her left hand was broken off and is restored. A bunch of overpaint makes it hard to judge how much was damaged but her hand has had work done on it as well as the left side of her blouse and the horn on that area. The candleholder part is attached with filler but I think that is original to make it straight since otherwise it would have been quite crooked! Three minor chips to the base. All in all she displays nicely and is a rare example of this maker! The piece is unmarked underneath which is very common. It is 11.125 inches tall, 4.25 inches wide and 4.375 inches deep.
