Doccia White Ecuelle

This is a nice ecuelle or lidded soup bowl made by Doccia in the late 18th century. I just bought an entire collection of this style design just in case you were wondering! They are quite rare and I have not seen nor owned a piece like it! This is what most people refer to as Capodimonte style with the mythological or biblical scenes in relief. I don't believe Capodimonte ever actually made this style but Doccia did and made it famous for sure! The bowl and lid have figural scenes on them including trees, lots of people and what looks like a lady in a chariot. The lid has a superb figural finial on it of a putto holding a flower. The bowl part has two twisted branch type handles ending in leaves. All this is done in relief and is very detailed. The set is in great condition with some of their typical manufacturing flaws of this period including small cracks that are under the glaze, minor black spots and inclusions. The lid has a major firing flaw on the udneside ring that sits in the bowl part. It cracked during the firing process with a long thin sliver missing now but since it sits inside the bowl it is no big deal for display purposes and was sold back then. Shows the major sisues they still ahd in the 18th century at times. The bottom part has an old restoration to the top rim that was filled and has darkenend over time. A little white color would hide it completely but to me it is all aprt of the good old stuff. It displays just fine with it! The ecuelle is marked with the crown over N mark in underglaze blue. It stands 6.25 inches tall including the finial, the lid has a diameter of 6 inches and it is 7.375 inches wide including the handles. Please email me for more information or other pictures.
