Reticulated Spectacle Plate

This is a really nice plate made by Derby around 1760. This design is known as "spectacle" due to the nature of the rim that sort of look like a pair of early glasses. It's the second of these I have owned and this one here is the rarer and nicer version with the reticulated rim as well as the relief leaf design in the center which is also hand painted with a larger floral arrangement to one sideas well as three single flowers filling in the rest of the space. The rim has applied flowers to the intersections of the circles along the edge. Brown trim to the edge. The flowers were painted by the so called cottom stem painter whose name is not known but whose style is. A really fun plate that is quite different from all others I have come across over the years so it was a must have! The plate is in great condition with some wear which can be seen in my pictures. No hairlines, restorations, etc. The plate is not marked which is not uncommon on their early wares but it has an old collector label for the collection of Dr. David Widlers . The plate is 0.75 inches tall and 7.125 inches in diameter. Please email me for more information or other pictures.

Price is $599
